The Cardiac Surgery Single Stay Unit at Providence Everett Medical Center is the first of its kind in Washington State and offers a revolutionary new way of caring for patients. After cardiac surgery, patients go to private rooms in the new Cardiac Surgery Single Stay Unit and remain in their rooms their entire hospital stay with the care changing around them – from critical care nursing right after surgery to various therapies to help patients get ready to go home. No longer will cardiac surgery patients transfer from the critical care unit to telemetry to other areas of the hospital. Instead, in the new unit the room and expertise change to meet the individual patient’s needs. This provides better coordination of care for the patient, improved communication between the caregivers and family members, a higher level of patient satisfaction and comfort, and even allows for patients to recover more quickly -- therefore getting home sooner than before.
The new unit has fifteen patient rooms, each with a private bathroom. The equipment and technology, which were purchased with a $1 million grant from Providence General Foundation, are the most technologically advanced available and will aid in providing the best patient care in the Pacific Northwest.
