Questions to Ask Your Pharmacist

Pharmacists are medication experts – they check each prescription to ensure the information is complete and will not interact with other medications you may be taking. Your pharmacist also makes sure you understand the proper way to store and take your medications.

It is important to use the same pharmacy for your prescription needs, especially if you are seeing multiple health care providers. This ensures that your pharmacist has access to your complete medication history when checking for problems or possible interactions.

Whether you are filling a prescription or selecting an over-the-counter medicine, make sure your questions are answered before you leave the pharmacy.

Know the Answers to These Questions:

  • Why am I taking this medicine?
  • How and when do I take this medicine?
  • Does this medicine have any side effects? What should I do if they occur?
  • Should I avoid any other medicines (prescription or over-the-counter), dietary supplements, drinks, foods or activities while using my medicine?
  • What should I do if I miss a dose?

Talk to your pharmacist if you are having trouble taking a medicine, experiencing side effects that prevent your from taking your medicine or any other questions or concerns.
