Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act

HIPAA

Overview

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) addresses the right of patients to have their medical information kept private and confidential. This federal law applies to all hospitals, clinics, other facilities, services, programs, employees, providers and medical staff members affiliated with Providence Health & Services, Oregon.

Under HIPAA, any electronic, written, or oral health information that can identify a specific patient is considered Protected Health Information. We fully support this law, and have spent several years reviewing our policies and bringing all departments and divisions into HIPAA compliance. Your health care information is a personal matter and we are committed to protecting its confidentiality.
