Providence Reaches Out to Vietnamese Community with Annual Health Fair

WHAT: Vietnamese Health Fair – a free event to promote health awareness and provide health resources to Portland’s Vietnamese community.
WHEN: Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008
1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
WHERE: PCC Southeast Center
2305 SE 82nd Avenue, Portland
DETAILS: Attendees can participate in free health checks to screen for diabetes and high blood pressure, get pneumoccocal, tetanus and other vaccinations and have an opportunity to sign up to become a Vietnamese volunteer health promoter. Those who are without health insurance can also sign up for a free or low cost medical care program and a free Pap smear and mammogram program.
Thanh Long Pham, M.D., family physician with Providence Medical Group, North Portland, will participate in a health discussion forum about specific concerns, such as hepatitis and high cholesterol.
In addition to the health information, bicycle helmets will be available for $5 each. The Portland Fire Department will distribute tips on fire safety, and the Portland Development Commission will provide lead testing on toys and provide free testing kits. 503 235 9396 (ext. 116)
