New Orthopedic Surgeon Joins Providence Milwaukie Medical Staff and Milwaukie Orthopedics & Sports Medicine

Oct. 29, 2008

PORTLAND, Ore. — Bret Kean, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty training in arthroscopic surgery, has joined the medical staff of Providence Milwaukie Hospital. Dr. Kean is practicing at Milwaukie Orthopedics & Sports Medicine with Paul Ruesch, M.D., and Matthew Sugalski, M.D.

“We are so pleased to have Dr. Kean join us,” said Theron Park, chief executive of Providence Milwaukie Hospital. “Expanding our orthopedic team has been a key objective in recent months, and his range of talent and experience is a welcome addition to our medical staff.”

“The addition of Dr. Kean improves access to an orthopedic specialist in our community,” added Dr. Ruesch. “He is well-qualified and well-trained, and I am very happy to have him here.”

Dr. Kean started his training in Pennsylvania, first earning his bachelor’s in molecular biology at Haverford College and then his M.D. at Jefferson Medical College. He then headed westward, completing his residency at Case Western in Cleveland and a fellowship in sports medicine/arthroscopic surgery at the University of Utah. While at the University of Utah, Dr. Kean treated the university’s collegiate athletes, authored a book chapter on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery and completed research on the surgery that is being presented at two upcoming national orthopedic meetings. He also made time to ski in the mountains surrounding Salt Lake City with his family.

On a professional level, Dr. Kean is interested in double-bundle ACL reconstructions (reconstructions that utilize two grafts rather than the standard one), care of the winter athlete and arthroscopic shoulder surgery. His personal interests included spending time with his family, running and skiing.

Milwaukie Orthopedics is located adjacent to Providence Milwaukie Hospital at 10202 S.E. 32nd Ave., Suite 101. You can reach the clinic at 503-659-1769.
