PORTLAND, Ore. — Matthew Sugalski, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty training in sports medicine, has joined the medical staff of Providence Milwaukie Hospital. Dr. Sugalski is practicing at Milwaukie Orthopedics & Sports Medicine with Paul Ruesch, M.D.
“We are so pleased to have Dr. Sugalski here,” said Theron Park, chief executive of Providence Milwaukie Hospital. “Expanding our orthopedic team has been a key objective in recent months, and his range of talent and experience is a welcome addition to our medical staff.”
“The addition of Dr. Sugalski improves access to an orthopedic specialist in our community,” added Dr. Ruesch. “He is well-qualified and well-trained, and I am very happy to have him here.”
Dr. Sugalski, who also has a special interest in shoulder and knee surgery, began his training with an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He went on to receive his medical degree from Columbia University in New York. He remained at Columbia to complete a residency in orthopedic surgery. While at Columbia, he devoted one year to the research of shoulder anatomy and biomechanics, which led to the publication of numerous articles. Following his residency, Dr. Sugalski proceeded to Minneapolis, Minn. where he completed a fellowship in sports medicine working with the team doctors of Minnesota’s major pro sports franchises – the Vikings (NFL), Twins (MLB), Timberwolves (NBA), Wild (NHL), and Lynx (WNBA).
“My wife and I instantly fell in love with Oregon and are very happy to be a part of this community,” said Dr. Sugalski.
