Street of Dreams 'Providence House' Benefits Center for Medically Fragile Children

Aug. 20, 2008

PORTLAND, Ore. — The 2008 NW Natural Street of Dreams is situated on the highest point in Portland, in the Altamont subdivision on Mt. Scott. The event is also a high point for Debbie and John McDougall, whose custom-built home, The Providence House, is part of the month-long showcase for Portland-area homebuilders.

Scheduled for Aug. 16 through Sept. 14, 2008, the 33rd annual Street of Dreams tour features six premiere homes, including The Providence House, which was built by KDC Custom Homes LLC. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of The Providence House will help endow the Center for Medically Fragile Children (CMFC) at Providence Child Center, which offers care and services to children with severe and multiple disabilities.

Enter the McDougalls, for whom this year’s Providence House was created. The 5,800 square foot, four-bedroom Mediterranean-style home has captivating views of the Portland city skyline, Mt. St. Helens and beyond. Two of the bedrooms have been specifically designed for the McDougall’s grandchildren, Drew and Anna Rose.

“We can only imagine what it must be like for families whose child or grandchild requires skilled nursing care for a lifetime,” said Debbie. “Knowing that our home could play a part in letting others know that this incredible center exists in our community as well as help raise funds for the Child Center made our dream home even more meaningful.”

The Center for Medically Fragile Children is the only facility in the Northwest providing long-term nursing care to children with profound disabilities and complex medical needs requiring 24-hour skilled nursing care, short-term respite or end-of-life care. Fifty-eight children, ranging in age from birth to 21 years, call the center home. The Providence Child Center Foundation is on a mission to fully endow CMFC so that families with medically fragile children can find the compassionate care and support they need for generations to come.

The construction of a children’s charity home is a Street of Dreams tradition. The funds go directly to CMFC’s endowment, with the support from KDC Custom Homes, as well as generous subcontractors, suppliers and, of course, the home’s buyers. Over the past three years, the Providence House has raised more than $275,000 in contributions and pledges for Providence Child Center.

Additional donations can be made to the Providence Child Center Foundation, The Providence House, at 830 N.E. 47th Ave., Portland, OR  97213.
