DETAILS: The Providence Gallery at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center presents a variety of stunning watercolor paintings by Hillsboro artist Vergie Ries. Ries’ collection of art exhibits moments of joy, beauty and tradition from her lifetime. Whether painting vibrant flowers or historic buildings, she captures the life and story of each image. The watercolor display also includes five of her grandchildren – all who where born at Providence St. Vincent Hospital.
After retiring, Ries moved to Sonoma, California when her dad was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. In her father’s hospital room, she rediscovered the passion of her youth – watercolor painting. Ries considers this artistic breakthrough a gift from her dad, her role model and hero. “I found a life line in watercolor painting. Art allows me to remember and honor my parents in a beautiful, fulfilling way,” notes Ries.
The Providence Gallery exhibit is located in the main tower, second floor hallway of the hospital. Artwork is changed quarterly to showcase the creativity and culture of adults from Washington County and to emphasize the importance of art in healing. The art exhibit is a collaboration between Providence St. Vincent Medical Center and the Beaverton Arts Commission.
