Providence Breastfeeding Center

Dr. Andrew Carter

Breastfeeding may be natural, but it's not always easy. To help mothers provide the best nutrition for their newborns, Providence Health & Services offers a variety of breastfeeding (lactation) services. Certified lactation consultants or registered nurses skilled in helping mothers succeed at breastfeeding are available by appointment to fit your busy schedule.

Providence Health & Services supports the American Academy of Pediatrics' recommendation that mothers should breastfeed or provide breast milk for the first year of an infant's life.

Consultations
Consultations are private and last from 30 to 90 minutes. Mothers may invite their husbands or partners and the baby's siblings to attend the appointments. To make an appointment, please call the breastfeeding center nearest you.

Prenatal Consultation: A private appointment before your baby is born will help you understand the breastfeeding process, prepare you for successful breastfeeding and solve potential problems before they occur.

Getting Started: This evaluation includes a weight check and a feeding evaluation for the newborn. It is also an opportunity to ask questions and receive continued support after leaving the hospital.

Urgent Consults: Consultations are available throughout all stages of breastfeeding. Common concerns include slow weight gain, breast infections, recurrent pain during feeds, and returning to work.
