Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative brain disorder that affects more than 1.5 million Americans. It is one disease in a family of conditions called movement disorders. Other movement disorders include restless leg syndrome, essential tremor, dystonia, tics and Tourette's syndrome.

Famous people with Parkinson's disease have recently raised awareness about the condition. Each of these people, including the first female U.S. Attorney General, Janet Reno; retired former Heavy Weight Champion, Muhammad Ali; actor Michael J. Fox and Pope John Paul II proved that people with Parkinson's disease could pursue their life's work while managing their symptoms, and achieve great things in their professional and personal lives. With early, high-quality treatment, it is possible to lead an active life for many years with Parkinson's disease.

At Providence Center for Parkinson’s Disease, our primary focus in treating Parkinson’s disease is to help patients maintain performance and quality of life while limiting the side effects of Parkinson's medications. We believe in a multi-faceted treatment approach that may involve the following, depending on the individual's needs:

  • Medications
  • Exercise, both mental and physical
  • Balance training
  • Assistive devices
  • Family and patient support
  • Surgery and deep brain stimulation
