Providence Pediatric Services is proud to introduce our seven pediatric hospitalists at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. Our pediatric hospitalists are available in-house for all patients who require primary hospital coverage or consultation.
Cindy Chan, M.D.

Cindy Cristofani, M.D.
Dr. Cristofani completed her medical school training at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. She stayed at Georgetown for her pediatric residency and completed fellowships in pediatric critical care at Children’s Hospital National Medical Center; and neonatology at Oregon Health and Science University. Yolanda Domond, M.D.

Matthew Gadbaw, M.D.

Roy Jan, M.D.

Kathleen Lewis, M.D.

Nicole Perdue, M.D.

Cindy Chan, M.D.
Background: Cindy Chan is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. She completed her undergraduate work at Notre Dame University in Indiana, graduating with dual degrees in science pre-professional and Spanish. She completed her medical training at the Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico where she graduated with clinical distinction and was selected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Dr. Chan then returned to Ohio where she completed her internal medicine and pediatrics training at Case Western Reserve University. Her clinical distinctions there included the Senior Resident Goodfellow Award for dedication and service and the James F. Quilty Comprehensive Care Recognition Award for compassion and intellectual excellence in caring for children with special medical needs.
After her residency, she served as a senior clinical instructor in Case Western’s emergency department and pediatric section. Dr. Chan joined our hospitalist group in 2006. She has served as one of our Emergency Department liaisons and developed discharge education material for asthmatic patients. Outside the hospital, Dr. Chan is a question-writer for the American Board of Pediatrics. She is also fluent in Spanish and is currently studying Italian. Back to top
Cindy Cristofani, M.D.
Background: Cindy Cristofani was born and raised in Portland, Ore. She attended Stanford University for her undergraduate studies, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and was selected to the Cap and Gown Stanford Women’s Honorary Society. Dr. Cristofani completed her medical school training at Georgetown University, graduating with honors in pediatrics and was selected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. She stayed at Georgetown for her pediatric residency, and completed fellowships in pediatric critical care at Children’s Hospital National Medical Center and in neonatology at Oregon Health and Science University.
Since that time, Dr. Cristofani worked in pediatric intensive care and neonatal intensive care at Bess Kaiser in Portland for seven years, and then in the pediatric intensive care at Legacy Emanuel Children’s Hospital for 17 years. She was the first national Pediatric Advanced Life Support faculty from Oregon, and still is very active in teaching PALS providers in Oregon. Dr. Cristofani has been very active in grant writing – in particular with the Oregon State Emergency Medical Services for Children Grant, through which she authored pediatric texts for paramedics, taught pre-hospital pediatric classes for many years, and developed and taught a pediatric emergency course for school nurses. Dr. Cristofani joined our hospitalist group in 2006. Since joining our group, she has been instrumental in designing our pediatric standard order sets, establishing monthly teaching conferences, and monitoring monthly pediatric mock codes. When not working, Dr. Cristofani enjoys backpacking, exploring the many fauna of tide pools, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Back to top
Yolanda Domond, M.D.
Background: Yolanda Domond was born in Portland, Ore., and attended the University of Oregon where she received a bachelor’s degree in biology with minors in chemistry and political science. She completed her medical school studies at Howard University, in Washington D.C., and her internal medicine and pediatrics combined residency at Christiana Care Heath Center in Newark, Del. Yolanda has considerable interest and experience with international health, including participating in the James A. Ferguson Emerging Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program in San Juan Puerto Rico, working at the Centre Medical Emmanuel, Cayes-Jacmel, Haiti, and working at the Tropical Medicine Institute at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Perú. Dr.Domond joined our hospitalist group in 2007. When not working, she enjoys swimming, soccer, tennis, painting, international travel, cooking, and camping. Back to top
Matthew Gadbaw, M.D.
Background: Matthew Gadbaw is originally from Olympia, Wash. He completed his undergraduate studies at Stanford University receiving bachelor degrees in English and biological sciences. He completed his medical degree at the University of Washington in Seattle, graduating with honors and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Dr. Gadbaw completed his combined internal medicine and pediatrics training at Duke University in North Carolina. He joined our hospitalist group in 2004. He is currently the Medical Director of the inpatient pediatric unit at Providence St. Vincent and is our lead pediatric hospitalist. Dr Gadbaw is also responsible for developing guidelines for a safe environment of care for pediatric patients with eating disorders. When not working, Dr. Gadbaw enjoys hiking, running, traveling, winemaking and spending time with his wife and two daughters. Back to top
Roy Jan, M.D.
Background: Roy Jan was born in Knoxville, Tenn., and completed a bachelor of science degree in biological sciences at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He returned home for his medical training at the University of Tennessee in Memphis where he was selected into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed his residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of California at San Diego. Dr. Jan joined the Providence St. Vincent hospitalist group in 2006. He has helped write many of our standardized pediatric order sets, written an orientation manual for new hospitalists, and serves as one of our Emergency Department liaisons.
Outside of his time at the hospital, Dr. Jan is involved with Hands On Portland, a local volunteer organization, and is a Big Sib in Portland’s Big Sib-Little Sib Program; helping at-risk youth. He enjoys hiking, traveling, surfing and playing the piano in his free time. Dr. Jan is trilingual in English, Mandarin, and Spanish. One of his professional goals is to participate in medical missions to third-world countries. Back to top
Kathleen Lewis, M.D.
Background: Kathleen Lewis was born and raised in Elizabethtown, Ky. She graduated from Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky., with a bachelor’s degree in English, and completed her medical training at the University of Louisville. Dr. Lewis stayed at the University of Louisville for her combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics and completed a Medicine Pediatrics fellowship in palliative care. Dr. Lewis joined our hospitalist group in 2006. She has been active as a liaison between our hospitalist group and outpatient pediatric clinics and works on our palliative care team. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Lewis enjoys running, hiking, and amateur astronomy. Back to top
Nicole Perdue, M.D.
Background: Nicole Perdue was born in Klamath Falls, Ore., and grew up in the Midwest, specifically in Ohio, Illinois, and Michigan. She graduated from Alma College in Alma, MI., with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish with honors and completed her master’s in organic chemistry from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She received her medical degree from Michigan State University and then completed a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Michigan. Dr. Perdue joined our hospitalist group in 2006. She has overseen our pediatric patient satisfaction surveys and served as our behavioral health liaison, where she has helped develop an appropriate environment of care for pediatric patients who have psychiatric co-diagnoses that require inpatient medical stabilization. She is also fluent in Spanish, and she has previously worked as a medical translator. When not working, Dr Perdue enjoys playing with her kids, gardening and reading. Back to top
